Best Drawn Yawns

In keeping with the yawn theme- here is classic Disney. Perfect for insomniacs.

Inspired

Ah- Here is the inspiration for the blog. A small painting I found in a Salvation Army for 2 bucks. How could anyone resist such a exquisitely cliched example of low brow art. Best yet it was signed by Wooge himself in 1972. My daughter paid tribute to The Wooge by offering a wreath of toilet paper around the bowl. She said it was because the seat was cold but I know she wanted to honor all things that initially appear as waste but go onto other lives that are beneficial to our world. My son must believe in The Wooge as well because he said he needed to use our bathroom because his sister left toilet paper on the seat. We all know you don't disturb a sacred tribute.

My Spidey

A gouache painting I did for my son from the 1967 Spiderman cartoon.  Here Spidey is swinging out of a Matisse and into a Picasso. Before Ralph Bakshi came to direct some wonderfully crazy story lines with his static but skillfully drawn animation some still frames were really wonderfully clunky. The proportions on the Spidey Picasso image are so off and so great.

Wakiki Wabbit

Art deco backgrounds stage this beautifully animated Bugs Bunny cartoon. Using big graphic shapes during the sea scene puts emphasis on the deft line drawing of the characters.

Best cartoon yawn

The profile pic looks like a yawn to me. So as a homage to Jack Kirby I present Bessie Higgenbottom and her dog friend Happy in The Mighty B!
